A She-Devils Memory

While digging through old cassettes and Protools project CDs I was delighted to discover a "She-Devils On Heels" promo from 2004. This was from the "third season," when Annie first joined as co-host, and I think the promo sums up the show perfectly. So does this picture.

The commercial was very much a collaboration, though I think Annie's energy was the most crucial ingredient. What I remember most about it was forcing poor Annie to say "Do we HAVE superpowers?" about fifty times. What I remember most about that picture was...well, unsurprisingly I don't remember it at all.

Gosh, this makes me miss hearing your voice on ol' CKMS. You do have a great radio voice y'know.

Thanks! I credit five years of Tim Horton's drive through. :)

Good thing the promo link's in the blog - otherwise I could only imagine what was going on. That's not what I thought was on Canadian radio!

Is CKMS an alternative or mainstream station?

Hey, I think Anonymous just INSULTED me!

Fortunately it was funny.

Gary, CKMS was the community radio station affiliated with the University of Waterloo. It was alternative "College" radio.

So no, not the sort of thing you'd usually hear on the airwaves. It was a good show, usually.

Thanks for the radio info.

I know little about that college - but I remember (way, way back) programming in something called "Watfiv" - Waterloo Fortran Four when I attended NYU. On an old IBM 360 mainframe - ah, the days of "big iron," punch card readers, and keypunch stations. Same Waterloo, perhaps?

Lest you think us old-fashioned then, we also had an HP 3000C timeshared computer hooked up to ultra-modern teletype terminals with paper-tape punch capability.

How ya gonna keep 'em down on the farm when they've seen all this?

Y'see, all this talk about old computers is relevant - it brings us back to a time when radio was a more respected - and appreciated - medium.

P.S. Gonna be away from PCs for a few days. Will be back early Nov.

Have a good vacation, Gary! If it IS a vacation...

You're 100% right, those "WAT-" applications were all produced by "WATcom," a local business run by UofW computer science graduates.

I was priveleged to have spent a summer working at their spin-off thinktank, "WATfac," just before the whole company went belly-up (not my fault).

I've got people who want to record my laugh. I remember the fond memories of going to bubble tea and curry in a hurry before the show.
