Nobody can resist the woman with the Hormel Flavor-Sealed Ham.

Oh No! It's the beginning of The Thin Man! Hormel has captured Nick & Nora Charles and is feeding them canned ham!

How will our heroes get out of this scrape? ("Asta...that's a good dog. Bring me the lid...I think I can saw through these ropes with the sharp edge...")

Anyway, that's the kind of impression that I get from the ad. Something classy-looking - with a touch of foreboding.

Hooray for Art Deco! (Canned ham I cannot and will not comment on.)

If he keeps eating Hormel canned hams, he won't be a thin man for long!

Oh, I know! What's with the foreboding? Film noir meets vacuum-cooked ham, before film noir had even arrived.

So good I HAD to post the whole thing. Plus it would have been hard to cut out the pictures in a meaningful way.

Hey Muffy.
You do come up with the most interesting subjects. Your blog on the canned ham took me down memory lane.
Once upon a time, years and years ago I stayed for a week at a friend’s family home down in Barbados. I knew they wouldn't accept money for my time spent there so I took a suitcase of food with me. (Remember everything is imported there and food was, at that time, expensive) Anyway, along with chocolate and tea and a whole bunch of other stuff I had 2 canned hams in the suitcase and my hosts were thrilled to get them. It seems you just add brown sugar, and pineapple rings and maraschino cherries to the top of the ham and bake it and you end up with a superbly delicious entree.
That's what they told me they did with them. It's the truth! Who was I to doubt this? Besides who knows? Could be ok tasting.
Anyways, I just thought I would share my memory with you.
Personally, I like Flakes of Ham mixed with honey mustard, topped with a slice of cheese (6 year old cheddar is best)and put on a Whole Wheat English Muffin and then set under the broiler until the cheese is melted.
mmmmmm......yummie.....
Have a wonderful long weekend Muffie. You deserve it after all the hard work you do in keeping your blog so interesting for us out in cyber land.
Have fun but take care!

It's good to hear that your ham experience was less spooky than the one depicted in this picture! They MUST taste pretty good, otherwise I imagine they wouldn't continue making them...it just seems like a weird concept to me.

But you know, I think potato flakes taste pretty good, myself.
