J & T Cousins Exclusively Fine Shoes

Did Eve Wear Snake Skin Shoes?

Historians differ on this point. They agree that a snake (generally called a serpent) did figure in the situation--but not in a wardrobe way.

In fact the modern Eve has waited until now for this charming idea of Boa Snake Skin Shoes.

If you are looking for the Shoe Temptation of the season, you will find it among the charming models (just ahead of the style) now on display in our wonderful 57th Street Store.

The New Yorker, October 8, 1927
What a brilliant advertising campaign.

Is that snake's sinuous form supposed to look like the silhouette of a man appreciatively leering at Eve, with his eyes at fig-leaves level?

Boa-skin shoes--do they mold themselves to your feet?

Oh, I get it. It's like the snake is tempting her with the shoes, instead of an apple. Oh! Neato.

Personally I find shoes more tempting than apples any day.

Back in the Garden of Eden, accepting the snake's temptation resulted in the blood of menstruation. These days, accepting snake-skin shoes results in somebody from PETA throwing blood-red dye at you.
